This book was good but very flawed. I found the parts of this book that dissected Bundy’s psyche, as well as the parts of the book that described his crimes and the court cases he was embroiled in, very engaging. However, my main problem with this book was that it was easily 200/300 pages too long. Rule spent chapters upon chapters waxing poetics about Bundy’s early adulthood and love life, and I just couldn’t bring myself to care. Furthermore, Rule just isn’t that good of a writer. Certainly, she isn’t good enough to carry such a long, bleak story.

I think this book is a good look into Bundy’s life. I will say at times I felt it was overly sympathetic to him and I will never agree with the idea that any of his victims were naive (Most were attacked in their own beds late at night. All of them had a right to feel safe.) These murders were horrendous and ugly, and I was glad to learn about the woman and their lives, but I think I’ve learned enough about Bundy for a lifetime.
