I picked this book for the month as a book prompt. I have seen the author mentioned over multiple platforms. This was one of the books I had seen many times. At first I just saw basketball romance and was excited I haven't read very many basketball romance. I wasn't aware of what this was really about until the author note at the beginning.
This book had me feeling so many different emotions. I did have to set the book down for a few minutes at a few different spots but I absolutely loved this story and loved how the story was told
I absolutely loved Iris and could kind of relate to her. I don't have the same story but there was some similarities. This was by far one of my favorite reads. The drive she has at the beginning and having her life planned after how she was raised. I love that her and Lotus wanted to be completely different that their mom's.
August West is a new favorite book boyfriend of mine. His inner monologue. The things he says to Iris "If you were mine, Iris, there would be no doubt what position You'd hold in my life. You'd be center. I'd play you at five " was just amazing.

Oh boy…this felt a bit like It Ends With Us if the wheels came off a you were careening down a winding highway road. Be warned that abuse and SA is on page and graphic. This book is a lot to handle. And yet…the connection felt fated and beyond time and distance. August West y’all. Sometimes a “disgusting man” when he’s pining for Iris. And somehow also…DAY ONE and princely? Like HOW! Can’t wait to reed book 2 in this series.

Do not read this book if you're feeling delicate. Parts of it were truly shocking. But it's a great read, meaty and substantial and important. I did not expect anything going in and was pleasantly surprised although the extreme violence turned a bit caricatural towards the end of it
Edit: this was tragedy porn plain and simple and it was just shock over shock over shock and I almost DNFed coz I did not know where it was going or why I was having to read so much pain but I don’t even think august was worth all that bro

It was a bit predictable in some spots but a great read nonetheless. My only complaint is that the audiobook had no indication of a trigger warning. I went into listening to this blindly. Multiple people recommended this on TikTok but no one that I came across mentioned that dv was involved. I begin most books without knowing much of what they’re about however it would have been helpful to know that this could be triggering. I took numerous breaks while reading so I was mostly ok.
