The book completes the arc begun in The Secret of the Unicorn, as Tintin and Captain Haddock launch an expedition to the Caribbean to locate the treasure of the pirate Red Rackham. The series also marks the first appearance of eccentric scientist Cuthbert Calculus who is a man hard of hearing. That joke gets old way too soon. Not much else happens in this series as there is no villain either, which was a kinda letdown compared to the previous books.
