Part 2 of a treasure hunt. Whereas history and espionage are the main themes in The Secret Of The Unicorn, Red Rackham’s Treasure focuses solely on the desert island adventure surrounding the recovery of pirate treasure. This book is the first to lean into the character of Professor Calculus and I feel like the troupe of Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock, Thomson, and Thompson is at last completed with his inclusion. Things really see you come into full swing with this two part story.

I quite enjoyed this concluding tale, following Secret of the Unicorn. It's actually nice to have an adventure without some wayward crooks spoiling proceedings. There's some fantastic imagery and splash pages, a lot of humour (unfortunately still a lot of slapstick, made worse by Calculus and his 'hilarious' deafness).
Still, it's fun, flows quickly and is pretty stripped back. Apparently this is the best selling Tintin story which I find a little surprising. Hopefully there are better stories to come as we enter his golden period.
I've not mentioned them before but these young reader editions have a lot of interesting material supplementing the story at the end, providing context and behind the scenes interest. It's worth looking at.
Onwards!

A chuffing mystery in 'The Secret of the Unicorn' descends into delightful goofs in 'Red Rackham's Treasure'. Hergé's really hit his stride.
