A slow character study with vibrant prose. I wanted to reach through the book an give Yara a hug!

This started out really good but I began to lose interest about 65% of the way through, as the plot kind of runs in circles and is also somewhat predictable. I prefer A Woman is No Man which I read earlier this year.
Graphic: Domestic abuse
Moderate: Emotional abuse
Minor: Death of parent, Grief, Racism, and Mental illness

The writing style of this book was a chore to read. It's incredibly stilted and not in a way that is purposeful or a stylistic choice. It's unfortunate that Rum tried to cram almost every negative stereotype of our culture into these characters. The only bright spot is teta's rooftop.
