PLACEHOLDER FOR WELCOME TO NEVERBURY REVIEW BY CHRIS LYNCH

My initial interest in Welcome to Neverbury was that I was looking for short story horror fiction, and the heavy "Welcome to Nightvale"-vibes. And the WTNV vibes are strong here (however Neverbury surpasses the former by being a bit more darker and sinister in some place.

Upon completion, I am not certain if I would qualify this as a short story collection. Welcome to Neverbury feels like you have a camera zooming into a specific household, office, street and then smoothly panning to other parts of the town to see 'what else is going on'?!

That said, I will not review each short story, but I will give my top ones

1 & 2) Letter Office & Yes No Refunds

These two first stories are the perfect introduction to the town.

One story features 'buyer's regret' and gives you a notion about how the town ensures they have the right people in the right place.

The other one is a story of mundane murder most foul.

3) Bring the Thunder

A story of old gods versus new, with a fantastic twist

4) A Design for Living

Architect visits a falling house in Newberry. FALLS in love with the house for a hotel and then just FALLS.

5 & 6) Open House & Return to Neverbury

These two stories are reviewed together because they directly connect. Another example of how this creepy town is able to draw the right people into the right place.

Welcome to Neverbury is easily my favourite short-fiction horror read of the year, and I feel that the premise will allow for a series to be fully fleshed out!.
