I almost abandoned this about half way through. For those who know me - I hate philosophy! And this book is 80% philosophical discussion. But it was done in a way that I actually understood what the narrator was saying. I'm glad I kept going because the implications presented by the end are very intriguing to me. I don't want to spoil anything so I will simply run things around in my head rather than put them to paper. This is the type of book that you will think about for a long time after reading it. It meanders, but that makes the ending that much more hard hitting.

Οκ αυτό δεν το περίμενα! Βασικά για να είμαι ειλικρινής δεν ξέρω τι ακριβώς περίμενα καθώς διαβάζοντας την υπόθεση από το οπισθόφυλλο δεν πολυκατάλαβα τι ακριβώς θα διάβαζα.
Ουσιαστικά παρακολουθούμε μια εξέταση. Η Άναξ ενώπιον τριών Εξεταστών αναλύει την ζωή και την εποχή του Άνταμ Φορντ, ενός ευφυή επαναστάτη, με σκοπό την εισαγωγή της στην Ακαδημία. Βρισκόμαστε κάπου στο μέλλον και μέσα από την εξέταση, σιγά σιγά, ξεδιπλώνεται όλη η ιστορία της ανθρωπότητας, από τη στιγμή της ίδρυσης της Πολιτείας του Πλάτωνα εξαιτίας της πανούκλας που ξέσπασε μέχρι την τωρινή κοινωνία και τον ρόλο που έπαιξε ο Άνταμ στη μετάβαση από την μια κατάσταση στην άλλη. Και που αυτή η άλλη κατάσταση εδώ που τα λέμε δεν ξέρουμε τι ακριβώς είναι. Μέχρι να είναι πολύ αργά!
Όλη αυτή η άγνοια μας για το πού βρισκόμαστε και το ότι μαθαίνουμε σιγά σιγά μέσα από τις ερωτήσεις των εξεταστών και τις απαντήσεις της Άναξ δημιουργεί μια αβεβαιότητα, μια αγωνία, μια υποψία ότι τα πράγματα δεν είναι έτσι όπως φαίνονται!
Τι είναι άνθρωπος; τι είναι ψυχή; τι καθοδηγεί τις πράξεις μας; μπορεί μια μηχανή να αποκτήσει συνείδηση; θα καταφέρει η Άναξ να απαντήσει σε αυτά τα ερωτήματα; και με ποιο τίμημα;
Με εξέπληξε ευχάριστα και πολύ χαίρομαι γι' αυτό!

The format of this book as mostly script style takes a little bit of getting used to, but it is interspersed occasionally with Anaximander's first person thoughts and storytelling through the examiners watching holograms Anax has created. Once I'd gotten used to the style, I was absolutely hooked. The slow, but steady, drip of information builds up as you get a better picture of the world Anax lives in as well as the republic that came before. This build up creates a lot of tension and I could sense something big happening. Not that I ever, ever, guessed what that would be!
Anax is a young scholar taking the entrance examination for The Academy, but she's about to learn things she never knew about the subject of her study who helped shape her society.
I was surprised at how short this book was, but I was also surprised that it managed to suck me in so quickly since it's in a transcript format. I read it in a single sitting. I was able to figure out some of the surprises in store but not all of them. Fun to think about and very rewarding.

Philosphical, I liked the whole setting and premise. And it surprised. Though for some reason I kept forgetting it was set on Earth.. not in space.
Don't let the short page count fool you into thinking this is a quick read. Genesis is dense with philosophical debate.

Really liked this one. A review would be too spoilery. Suffice to say, it's barely a YA novel. More of an Asimov novella? Great quick read.
Quería tantísimo que este fuera el libro del que tanto hiper y entusiasmo he leído, pero al final ha sido como pasarme todo el día pensando en aquel trozo de tarta que tengo esperando en casa y, al abrir el frigorífico, darme que tenía pasas. Ahora bien, puedo comer pasas pero os digo que no lo disfruto tanto como las pepitas de chocolate y si tu lo haces, eres raro my friend.
No puedo evitar sentirme tonta, probablemente lo sea. Whatever. Es un relato corto, se lee rápido y, por favor, no lo hagáis en el versión española.
