I’m gonna be honest I cannot review this book correctly bc I wanted a fantasy/paranormal horror book not a true crime junkie’s wet dream horror.
Overall I guess it was fine, it took quite awhile for the actual horror part to start and I was annoyed by the character until it happen. And then after it happened I wanted more but the book just ended ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When I was selected to receive a NetGalley e-book version of #TheWoodsAreAlwaysWatching from Penguin Teen, I was excited to read my very first Stephanie Perkins book…and I was not disappointed! This book was such a fun ride which features two best friends who decide to go on a three day hiking trip before they go off to two different colleges. All is good at the beginning of the trip, but then something happens that changes their lives forever.
Once I started reading this book, I literally read 80% of it in one day…I just had to know what happened next!!! I’ll admit I am not a camping type person (as my dad always says), and after this book, I don’t think I ever will be! Lol! I appreciate the character growth of Neena and Josie as they battle different obstacles in the woods…some downright terrifying! I like how the ending is open-to-interpretation…I feel it adds to the overall suspense of the book. All in all, I feel this book is a perfect end-of-summer read! I will definitely check out Stephanie Perkins’s other thriller….
Thank you Penguin Teen for sending me this NetGalley e-book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I read this through this one pretty fast. It was a pretty solid way to kick off the start of my Halloween season reads a good ol' fashion lost in the woods/survival story. And as far as YA horror goes this one wasn't bad at all. It was less about the supernatural and more about a gritty crime. I'm not gonna say that it was a murder mystery per say because I wouldn't say that there was much of a mystery but it is worth the read imo.
great writing, but i dnf'd 36% through and the reason is entirely subjective: i HATED the girls. not because of bad writing, just personal experience and i can't read a book if i hate the tools used to tell the story
Started off strong and spooky but then became a sad slap back to reality because of course, men are the worst

I went in to this thinking that it would be more paranormal but I was pleasantly (?) surprised to find that this book highlighted the real monsters women already face (men).
3.5 rounded up. The development of the main characters made sense and some of the struggles they had were realistic....until getting to the villans. The villans were pretty one-note and single-minded woman-haters. However, the climax made me laugh (but for a good reason). I'd probably recommend it.
I was expecting this to go more supernatural but it felt more true crime (as in, this could really happen) and I hate true crime, and anything that feels true crime. The girls were super annoying in their "Let's hike on this 3 days hike in Appalachia with no prior experience and ignore all the advice of people more experienced than us, lets also not do any real research to prepare for bad outcomes. And let's make horrible decisions the whole time".
