This is the first book I read by Stephanie Perkins. I always enjoy a good spooky read and the title and synopsis alone really got my interest piqued for this novel. The story follows two best friends Josie and Neena who are about to split up for the first time in their life. Neena is going away to California to college and the Josie is staying back at home. Before they separate they decide to go on a trip and camp in the woods. Right from the beginning and you can see even with all their practice Josie and Neena are not skilled campers at all which is an immediate red flag.

Disclaimer: I DNFed this book. I don’t think I’ve ever hated main characters more. Two stars for ambiance but what I made it through was so predictable and the characters were awful. I’ve tried to finish this on 3 separate occasions but I just can’t. This is only the third book I’ve DNFed in my life.

This was such a disappointment for me. I've loved all of Stephanie Perkins' books but this time it's a no. The characters who were supposed to be best friends were brutal to each other, plus nothing much happened for the first 100 pages. Then when it did it was just completely unbelievable. If anything it at least convinced me to stay firm to my stance of No Camping!

This book was insane. It was a delight for my true crime and horror mind. I would’ve liked some clarification on why the phones and chargers died. Could there have been some evidence that Willie or Lynman had crept into their tent and killed the batteries. Or was it perhaps actually the cold?

No matter what, it was a pleasant ending and the moment that Josie’s hand got blown off, I was interested and couldn’t put the book down. A good short read for in between two books.

Definitely recommend but now I’m even more scared of the woods than I originally was.

Neena and Josie are two best friends who bonded over being outsiders in high school and are now are facing a future without each other, as Neena travels to the West Coast for school, seperating them by 2000 miles. Desperate for a last-minute bonding trip together, Neena and Josie decide to take a three day hike and camping through the Pisgah National Forest. What starts off as an innocent and rather inexperiencedly planned trip, suddenly turns into something far more terrifying than wither one of the girls could have possibly planned for and soon the girls are fighting for their very survival.

Both Neena and Josie are the kind of quirky, eccentric teenage protagonists outcasts that make them likeable and relateable. You can feel the tensions in their friendship as they fight to save it whilst camping in the woods. AS a reader, you feel for them and you want them to pull through to the end. Which is done throught some excellent character development on Stephanie Perkins' end.

The novel is well written and easy to follow, told through alternating viewpoints and in seperate chunks--while the characters are "together" and "apart". Which makes for an interesting read and timeline that will keep you on pins and needles from start to finish.

The story is gripping, intense, chilling, and fascinating--though not for the faint of heart.

I’ve been a big fan of Stephanie Perkins work since reading Anna and the French Kiss. This one is a bit different to a boarding school romance in Paris, but I love it nonetheless. Two friends decide to spend their last days together before college by going on a camping trip, despite neither of them being the outdoorsy types. The title alone lets you know that it’s not going to be the happy camping experience the girls were hoping for. My heart was in my throat for most of this book, questioning the girls decisions that led them into danger, but knowing I wouldn’t behave any differently. After reading ‘There’s Someone in Your House,’ I knew the characters wouldn’t be safe and could die at any moment. It felt like I was just waiting for their untimely death whilst rooting for them to still make it home. If you’re looking for a good thriller to get into this year (and a reason to never go camping again), you should definitely give this book a read.

Absolute waste of time. Spoiler alert!!! Nothing happens in this book. Not spooky or atmospheric… I definitely judged a book by its cover which was, to my dismay, a mistake. Yawn. Next.

It’s a forgettable story. Sometimes it was predictable but it was mostly boring. Nothing happened for the first 80 or so pages and the ending was anticlimactic. The writing was really hard to read. It must’ve been awhile since I read a third person pov because it was hard to keep track on what was actually happening

If you enjoyed No Exit by a Taylor Adams, you’ll also enjoy The Woods Are Always Watching. This young adult is about BFFs Neena and Josie who are ready to head off to college two thousand miles apart. They plan a three day pre-college hike through the Pisgah National Forest. However, simmering tensions lead them on a detour and straight into a nightmare.
The book takes place in three different parts: together, apart, together. And while the first together felt slow moving and immature, the rest of the book made up for it. Once I got past that first part, I could not put the book down. Really a great read if you don’t mind gore.
