A quick read that I fully enjoyed! The 2 main characters were realistic & the story was well written!! Makes me interested in reading the other books Stephanie Perkins has created!

This was a pretty decent Sunday read. It definitely wasn’t mind blowing but if you are struggling with reader burnout, this is a good book to pick up.

Josie and Neena are high school best buds. They decide to go on a 3 day hiking trip after neither of them have ever done it before. They are not prepared for any of it. There is a strict plan but no contingency plans. Tempers run hot and arguments happen.

The girls end up meeting the villains but there is really no background on why the villains are the villains. Josie never would have survived what she did in reality. She would have died from blood loss and shock but somehow she’s still able to carry on.

There is a bit of a happily ever after…..maybe? The ending just pops up with no real conclusion

A solid 2 stars - the beginning set up didn't have much scary or suspenseful to ease you in; it all basically started happening at once. Once it did start though, it kept up and really did not stop until almost the end.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Why did everything seem to happen to only Josie???? Her Bad Things include (probably) losing a foot, getting her hand blown off, shooting someone, being sexually assaulted, and then DRIVING (with her missing hand and completely unusable foot) back while Neena had a lowkey asthma attack for a few hours and saw a couple dead bodies? Obviously that sucks but her physical recovery will be vastly different than Josie's! Plus none of her physical injuries hinder her future plans (going to college) while Josie's depressed mother likely won't be able to support her recovery at all.

For a book that’s just over 200 pages, it takes over half of that for the plot to really kick in. Once the plot does kick in, it moves too fast, feels like an unnecessary highlight of violence on women and then is resolved in a way too convenient, “are you kidding me?” way.

Thank you to bookish first and penguin teen for an arc to review.

The woods are always watching is about two friends taking a camping/hiking trip before one goes off to college, but there something sinster in the woods.

One thing this book does is make you really feel for the characters. The moment something bad happen my heart hurt for the friends. You really understand the feelings they were having. Feeling like a friendship has a expiration date is a pretty common heart breaking feeling and it really shows in the pages.

But this book is boring. It is 100 pages of just walking, not communicating and then picking at each other. I wish we could have had some chapters where we could hear about past incidents in the woods. Multimedia would have been amazing in this book.

I felt there was not enough action/plot to balance out the character development. So why I cared for them and they felt like real people go be the actual plot was lacking.

By the time it picks it is over. I would have love more suspend in the woods, more uncomfortable and unevenness. Also hated the ending.
