Wow.
Just…wow.
I’m the same age as Chanel and a recent graduate myself when she was attacked. I’m ashamed to say that I never read her statement that Buzzfeed published - though I did hear about it via conversations with my girlfriends.
I follows along via audio and couldn’t stop crying though out this memoir.
Thank you Chanel for telling your story. For giving insight. For having the courage to speak. Your words have impact and I’m grateful to have read and learned from your life. I hope you continue to write and that you continue to thrive!

Powerful. Gripping. Reality.

“This was not normal. It was an epidemic, a crisis. How could you see this headline and keep walking? We’d deadened to the severity, too familiar a story. But this story was not old to me yet. ‘I can’t believe there’s been another.’ This was no longer a fight against my rapist, it was a fight to be humanized.”

I am not in the right mindset to read this right now. I will come back to it another time. It is an important read, I’m sure.

This is now on my short list of “books that have permanently changed me.” Miller’s story is crushing yet her writing is so stunning. It’s odd to be drawn in to such captivating prose while the actual content is so awful. I listened to this on audio and I was grateful for her steady, calm voice reassuring me through so many painful moments. This ought to be mandatory reading. I can’t wait to see what else she creates.
