I bought this book when I was quite young and never got around to reading it until now. I probably would have enjoyed it more as a kid. The characters were endearing, but I felt that a lot of the connecting points were forced.
This book is full of cliches and is very unrealistic. In this book every thing connects in some way which sounds cool but it is super unrealistic and would never actually happen in real life. Normally in a good mystery things connect at the end and it’s a huge surprise and it explains a lot about the story, but that is not the case in this story. Also the emphasis on pentominoes was super unnecessary and made the book cheesy and unrealistic.

a really really fun middle grade novel! I'm really excited to read more in this series, the writing is fun and educational in a very natural and integrated way. also it's really refreshing reading a book like this that by nature of when it was published is so removed from being chronically online. it feels like a nancy drew/bsc mystery etc
