I've been SO MUCH looking forward to reading this since I saw it at the bookshop in Winchester Cathedral last spring. I first started visiting the cathedral in the fall of 2013 and have gone back four more times since, all the time following the progression of the forensic research done on the contents of these mortuary chests. It's a fascinating topic of study.

This book tells the history of the cathedral alongside the history of those who have been associated with the chests and could possibly be in the chests. While there are a lot of names and places and people groups and royals to sort out, Jarman tells an intriguing story that allows the imagination to wander in so many directions.

I especially enjoyed learning about the clues that both human teeth and tissues leave for forensic scientists to study and determine the path various lives took. Jarman discusses isotopes in a way that keeps this very non-sciency book nerd's eyes from glazing over. Thanks for that.

I made several notes and I know I'll come back to the text and extensive bibliography again and again. Such a great read and truly a great investment. I can't wait to read more by this author!
