The subject matter is very interesting, but not supported by particularly good prose or structure. Several places where the argument at the beginning of a paragraph did not follow through to the end.

An OK read but I felt like there was a real mismatch between how this book was framed and the actual contents. The premise is that the book is going to uncover the archaeological secrets of a set of bone chests kept in Winchester cathedral but it doesn't really do this - instead it's primarily a history of the Wessex kings and their successors as kings of England from the 6th century to just after the conquest. Which is fine, just not what I was expecting.
