A great break from the normal format. Be warned though, if your kids read the series, Murderbot learns to swear in this book, and they do it a lot.

I love Secunit/murder bot so much with all my heart I waited so long for the audiobook and it was so worth it I've listened to all of the books on audio and the narrator is perfect for it. This was my favorite out of the series so far can't wait for my hold to come in for the next book

The Murderbot Diaries' first full novel! Murderbot needs to deal with its crew getting mixed up in a space kidnapping, taking on a strange planet and its colony, while keeping everyone (mostly) intact and alive. An old friend from the past makes a return with a urgent help request. Murderbot just needs to get through all of it in one piece (mentally, emotionally & physically)... how challenging can it be?

It could be one more weird anomaly in this unending cycle of what the fuck.

I am so entangled in this universe that leaving is impossible (not that I'd even want to do that). I feel like someone grabbed me by my shoulders and shook me so hard that my brain got bounced around.
What the fuck? I was NOT prepared for all of these emotions and the raw reality of learning to live. This was more than I could even dreams of - Murderbot, its crew, ART with its crew, space adventures and a fuckton more! (So much happened in here I swear.)

I hate it when humans and augmented humans ruin things for no reason. Maybe because I was a thing before I was a person and if I’m not careful I could be a thing again.

Well, the adventures were overshadowed by the amount of emotional damage that every other page of this book decided to hit me with. I was genuinely worried and crying by the last chapters, it's not even funny (the book is funny tho). Nevertheless, the writing, the characters, the plot and all the dynamics are to die for! I am thrilled to continue the series and get to witness even more of Murderbot's journey! <3

I don't want to not see you again.

The beginning was good, it dragged a bit in the middle for me but  picked up in the last third and I ended up liking it a lot
I loved the almost horror-esque moment at the end.

I love Murderbot

I love it’s reactions to people’s concern for it, and I love that we got to see so much emotional character development in this book. I would give Murderbot the whole world if I could.

I love ART

I love their ‘relationship’ and I’m curious if it really will remain purely platonic or not. Murderbot seems very ace-coded so I assume it will but the way they kept using parallels to romantic relationships is making me wonder.

I already like 3

There are an unnecessary amount of characters and that leaves us with a lot of them being underdeveloped. I do wish I had a better sense of each of their personalities.

I’m gonna have to re read the first book because I don’t remember if they ever fully explained alien remnants. I know they were brought up in the first book but it’s been over a year since I read that one and I’m a little lost on what the alien remnants are exactly. I wanna know more. They seem to be both organic and code? They can infect AI like a computer virus but also humans like a viral infection.. how does that even work? Do the characters even know?

Fellas...is it queer to platonically make a killware baby with your spaceship bestie? I'm so glad ART gets to be a bigger bitch this time, and I love when characters are just so so protective over their friends, to the point of violence and destruction. I knew I was getting attached to Murderbot by the end of the first book and it kept growing from there, but this added a whole new level. I am thrilled the series continued past book 4 because this character development was so *chef's kiss*. I really want a heart-to-heart between Murderbot and ART, though I'm not sure they are quite there yet. Personally, I really don't think this could ever get a screen adaptation (movie, TV, or animated) just because nothing can capture the sensation of Being a Spaceship (or re: book 2, witnessing ART's full power). It's simply impossible to fully conceive, but it works better being an abstract concept on page than trying to translate it to a visual depiction.

ART and murderbot mean so much to me.

On a certain level, I doubt I would be able to finish reading this book without spoilers. There were just too many tense and emotional moments.

YESSSS MORE ART! I still really enjoyed this book, but it was a bit of a slog at some points. I think the novellas work a lot better for Murderbot stories.

laugh-out-loud funny, exciting and very human.
i love art's and muderbot's relationship, it's so unique and full of banter and still tinged with a certain kind of affection.
the story was packed with action and adventure and interesting plot-points and plot-twists, however the pacing felt a little off this time.
some parts of the mission were hard to read, even a little boring. the great characters undoubtedly made up for it though. reading about murderbot interacting with anyone is always the most entertaining and heartwarming. the emotional character development in this one was strong with all these new and important relationships established and explored.

i loved the experimenting with different POVs towards the end, that was refreshing and just a good time in general.

the best book character-wise, but not really the best story-wise.

update: march 26
upon re-reading it, i've only been enforced in my opinion that this one's probably my least favorite murderbot diary. it's kinda lengthy and though the plot is interesting 'on paper', the actual writing was a little exhausting.
as i've mentioned before, the characters are great and so is the character development. the rest, though, ehh...
