A great biography and a very well produced audiobook. I blew through it in 4 days.

If you know me, you know I love Willie Nelson. I own many of his records (collecting more all the time) and have had the pleasure of seeing him live. To my mind, he is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. His phrasing is magical and compelling no matter what he sings.

It saddens me greatly to think that he won’t be with us much longer, but talk about using your (at the time of this writing) 89 years wisely. In a career that has spanned almost 7 decades, Willie has seen practically the entire evolution of modern music and stayed true to his creative ethos throughout all of it. He’s still touring, composing, recording, and speaking his mind at the same level he always has. This biography is a fitting tribute to his longevity and living legend status.
informative

I devoured this book. Willie narrates the story of his life in his own relaxed voice, giving readers insight into the events and influences that made him the musician and man he is. Even the most diehard fans will probably learn something new from these stories. Personally, I would've liked to hear more about his various activist causes, particularly on cannabis, beyond what's in the book, but the stories he tells are so good I didn't really mind missing out on that. Highly recommend.

Exactly what you want from a Willie Nelson autobiography.

Really enjoyed this biography. Willie Nelson is an amazing person and he tells his story well. From start to finish I could not put it down. And his story continues on.

I think I have a contact high from listening to this one. I hope there's not a random drug test at work...I need the work. I laughed out loud many times. What a great memoir. So many lines that are going to be worked into my daily life but can't be written here. Wonderful.

As a lifelong fan of Willie’s from listening with my Dad, I was nervous about this book. I know Willie has great stories and an incredible number of amazing collaborations, but I have also read other stories from Willie that left me wanting.

This book was well-written and chronicles his 60+ year career in the music business in much more detail than I expected. Hearing Willie recount the thought processes behind some of his original hits (On the Road Again, Hello Walls) was one of my favorite parts. I also enjoyed the way he spoke of his friendships with some of the biggest names in country music and beyond (Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Ray Charles, Leon Russell). And his stories of struggling to make it in country music reveal just what has kept him going all this time.

Obviously, any longtime Willie Nelson fan will appreciate this book, but I hope that even casual fans will read it, because I think they’d be surprised at what an important role the Redheaded Stranger has played in country music’s long history.
