i absolutely loved this book. the raw story telling of Dolly’s wild wild wild youth of chasing the idea of being an adult by emptying vodka bottles. insane nights out while throwing herself at men to feel desired and full. her journey into therapy and shedding the idea of constantly looking for a partner, which allowed her to fully be present and to enjoy a night out with friends.
I completely and absolutely resonated with the story arc of watching friends fall into relationships and feeling left behind. the jarring fear when a friend moves out to life with a partner. to people not understanding that folks have different life milestones that don’t revolve around getting married. and the reminder to let friends fall in love and become shit friends (but only let them do that once) before they realize and come back to you, because good friends will learn & come back!! I loved her style of writing about baby showers and grand weddings that demand so much time and money from friends, without being considerate of where people are in life and finances. the writing format flow was very entertaining, switching from story telling to lists of 28 lessons in life to random recipes. and i loved the british slang thrown in.
there’s so much love in female friendships. “it’s introducing them to your colleagues at a work event and basking in pride as they make people laugh. and they make you feel lovable by dint of being loved by them”!!!!

I decided not to rate memoirs as that feels odd to rate someone’s life.
Some parts hit, like the uplifting and wholesome female friendships!!!! Other parts, like bing perpetually single and navigating dating did not.
The turning 30 morality chapters had some stunningly inspiring quotes about growth that I appreciated.
