Sydney was such a likeable character in TVA that I was excited to jump into her own spin off...especially knowing we would see so many familiar faces.
Going from Rose's inner thoughts and her world where she was a dhampir high school student surrounded by fellow dhampir and moroi...to Sydney pretending to being in high school, unfamiliar with being so closely surrounded by so many dhampir/moroi was a fun switch up.
This first book took me a little to get into and felt like it bounced around quite a bit, plot wise, but I'm confident that I'll continue to enjoy this journey with Sydney!

This book was pretty slow in my opinion. I felt like this did a lot of the set up for the rest of the series as opposed to standing up as it’s own story. I’m interested to see where this goes, but so far I don’t think this book is as strong as the Vampire Academy books.
I get that Richelle wanted Sydney to have body insecurity, but I did not like how she did it. Sydney is an 18 year old human that’s a size 4, and is comparing herself to a 15 year old Moroi that’s a size 2. I just didn’t like that because a size 4 is pretty damn small and the difference between size 2 and 4 isn’t that big. I just wish that if Richelle really wanted have a character with body insecurities then make Sydney a size 8 or something. (Not that size 8 is by any means big AT ALL but it feels more realistic and makes more sense why Sydney would feel that way when shes always around Jill). Idk it just felt icky to me.
Moderate: Bullying, Misogyny, and Rape
