The Sleepless is a beautifully written fantasy YA story that had me hooked from being to end.
It follows three main characters Elver guardian of the monster forest and Altair and Lucian who inhabit the same body.
These characters lives collide when Altair is forced to steal a monster from the forest and Elver is tasked with retrieving it. It soon becomes apparent that they must work together to save those they care about and get revenge for past wrong doings.
I love the world building in this book and the use of Gods, temples and followers who our MCs come up against throughout the story.
I enjoyed all three POVs and the unique love triangle that develops throughout the story.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone who loves YA fantasy.

This was my second time reading the story, and I’m still obsessed with it. A truly twisted love triangle in a tale of revenge, but also of kindness. A world full of politics, magic, and people just trying to survive in it.

I’ve been lucky enough to receive both an eARC and this ALC for this book and I have to say, while I really loved the ebook, I think this audiobook just elevates the whole experience. The narrators are doing an amazing job, with different voices for different characters, and it really felt like they were these characters they were portraying.

The Sleepless is a YA fantasy book with hint of romance. I found the romance pretty lowkey, this is definitely more fantasy-focused rather than romance-focused. The world is interesting but fairly simple - there are gods and mages that serve the gods, but only a few of the gods/their minions are shown. The concept of the Sleepless, people who are possessed by a spirit when they sleep or fall unconscious, was particularly interesting. While I enjoyed the characters, I do wish they had a bit more depth. There were some interesting conflicts set up between the characters, but I don’t feel like they were explored as much as they could have been. I think this book is definitely approachable for a young adult audience, but I found myself wishing the book just had a bit more to it.

I listened to the audiobook, which is narrated by two narrators, a man (who narrates Artair’s and Lucian’s chapters) and a woman (who narrates Elver’s chapters). While I think both of the narrators did a good job, I think I would’ve liked it better if there had only been one. Since there are two narrators that alternate between chapters, all of the characters are voiced by both of the narrators at Ken point or another, but the tone each of the narrators uses is a little different. To me, this made some of the characters come across differently depending on who was narrating a scene. This wasn’t a huge problem, but it was something I noticed.

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my unbiased review.

She’s falling for the monster within him, and that’s all you need to know. This book was not what I expected and it was so good. The world-building is beautifully crafted. The mythology and magic are intriguing and truly unique. I loved the romantic buildup and the animal sidekick was so fun. It’s a true YA fantasy and that’s great to see in this day and age. I’m already anticipating a reread of this book.

I also listened to this one on audiobook and the dual narration fit so well with this story.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This book has a unique concept and the world was interesting and immersing. The way Elver was sacrificed at the beginning was great but I wish the author would have built upon her transition a bit more. The Artair/Lucien love triangle was definitely unique and I don't know that I've read a book with this type of triangle before. I loved the world and the monster animals and the way they were described. Overall I found this to be a solid first book in this duology and I can't wait to see how the author wraps this one up. I think there is definitely more to explore with Lucien's past and i'm intrigued as to how that will play a part in the next book. 3.5 stars!

I recently listened to The Sleepless by Jen Williams on audiobook and was immediately drawn into the story. The narration was excellent—both narrators did a great job—but I especially enjoyed the richness and depth of the male narrator's baritone voice, which added a powerful atmosphere to the storytelling.

One of the things I really appreciated about this book was how it didn’t start with heavy world-building. Instead, it threw me right into the plot, letting the details of the world unfold naturally through the characters and their experiences. This immersive approach made it feel like I was discovering the world alongside them, which kept me fully engaged from the start.

The characters—Elver, Artair, and Lucien—are all compelling in different ways, and I’m excited to follow their stories further. There’s clearly so much more to learn, especially about the intriguing and mysterious Twelve Gods that shape the world they live in. I can't wait for the next installment to dive deeper into their journeys and the mythology behind this unique world.

Thank you to Jen Williams, Macmillian Audio, and NetGalley for the ARC!

The Sleepless is an entertaining fantasy adventure set in a vivid world.

This story follows Elver, Artair and Lucian. Elver has been sent by her god, the Queen of Serpents to retrieve a stolen monster cub. Artair intends on using the monster cub to trade for the lives of his kidnapped friends. Lucian, trapped in Artair's body wants freedom from his imprisonment.

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It left me wanting more, from the interactions of the 12 gods to the histories of the sleepless. I would gladly read three more books set in this world.
