This is my second time reading this book. My first read was 4 stars. My second read bumps it up to 5 stars.

Where The Cuckoos Calling was slow paced, The tension is palpable throughout this book. A dramatic near car accident early on had me gripping my chair and cheering on Robin's excellent driving skills.
Especially gripping from chapter 43. So many twists and turns before the big dramatic ending.

I love the way JK Rowling writes. She's a phenomenal talent. Her books are wordy and detailed. Yet she doesn't waste words. Everything has a reason for being in the story.
The little seemingly unimportant clues about Robin's past are cleverly shared in passing before the big reveal in the next book Career Of Evil. Interesting to re-read these now knowing their importance.

The murder in this book is particularly gruesome. Large parts are spent discussing it in detail looking for clues. Just a warning for the squeamish like myself.

Onto the next in this fantastic series. Just love Cormoran and Robin! (less)
