Feeling very neutral about this book , it had a lot of cross overs with the trilogy from the author which I read last year . They are easy reads and read a little like fan fiction which isn't entirely a bad thing
Lovely pallet cleanser again though got blindsided by a breeding kink which I'm not sure how I feel about
I feel like it should have been included in the content warnings

It's Tony's turn to find magic and love in the Nelson & MacIlwraith universe. Tony is struggling to recover from the attack by a shadow child. Nox takes Tony to Poole's Island in a last ditch effort to have the resident merrow, Ronan, cure him. The story is told in not only dual POV but the chapters alternate between the present and the past until they meet up (I'm not explaining that well, but it works in the book). In the present, Tony has been dumped by Ronan and is hurt by all the things his friends have kept from him. But he wants to be useful to Nox and help with their current investigation. In the past, we are watching Ronan and Tony fall in love while Tony recovers. There is a monster attack that brings the two threads together. I don't want to reveal too much about the plot because there is a mystery component. I liked the pansexual rep and the two MCs have pretty spicy chemistry. I would say there is some mid-level angst and do take caution as they discuss some ritualistic murders that were part of the previous books in the series. I like the basis in celtic myth that this series has, it is a fresh take on most magical or paranormal romance books I see. I could read a ton more romances set in this world.
Now, since they’re essential to having to back story, so you’re definitely going to want to have read the previous books in the series before this one. If you haven’t you will end up ruining some crucial plot points for yourself, not to mention end up a little lost.
(Plus they are good!)
Tony has been left at Ronan’s island by his friends so he can be healed from the aftermath of their last case. This story is told in a dual timeline, switching between Tony’s time on the island and the time after where he rejoins the rest of the group
From his ‘What the hell am I supposed to do with this?’ I knew Ronan was exactly my type of grumpy dude. Content to live a life mostly hidden away on an island? With a haunted lighthouse? Doing art and reading? With an ever growing collection of rescue dogs? Sign me tf up!
And who doesn’t like TA Tony? Other than the universe, which has *really* been giving him a tough time lately. Not only was he recently ill, but all the instances where he’s felt cast aside or lift behind have piled up. Plus he’s struggling to cope with some new developments about himself and how much of the supernatural world had been kept from him by his friends.
That said, even as he complains about late coming revelations, he’s pretty good at holding secrets of his own soooo
Without too many specific spoilers you can look forward to
