Um…

I have so many thoughts and feelings. I’ve never been more STRESSED about a book in my LIFE.

I LOVED it.

I teared up.

I cursed.

I squealed.

I think I screeched.

The ending felt kinda lackluster to me because I guess I expected it all to go down differently? Don’t ask me what I thought would happen because I don’t know, I just thought it would be different.

I wanted it to make me sob uncontrollably. It did not, so I knocked off a star because I’m a cruel book dragon.

Please don’t come for me. I will not respond or engage with that kind of behavior.

I will probably update this review when I’ve had time to think more about the book.

Content warnings (from the author): Blood, violence, gore, character deaths, murder (including mass murder), war themes, torture, weapon use, insects, alcohol consumption, parental abuse.

Additional content warnings: passionate kissing (including a gay kiss), a sex scene (not graphic, mostly just describes them undressing and the guy asking “is this okay?” before the scene ends), and strong cursing.

I thought this was a pretty okay and satisfying conclusion to the duology. I think the plot had a lot less direction than the first book which made me enjoy quite a bit less than the first book. However, I still adored the characters and the attention given to the political backdrop, and the ending was pretty great.

I really enjoyed it; however, I don't think I will be re-reading it any time soon.

a lot more political/gang focused than book 1 which personally i didn’t enjoy as much. this book didn’t really feel like the fantasy elements of the monster were really necessary to the plot
however, love the fact that this is a duology and not trilogy as it avoids second book syndrome and the plot being dragged out unnecessarily
overall thought liked the series - super fun concept and great characters
