Red, White, and Whole is a story told in verse. Reha is a young Indian American girl living in Kentucky, a place not known for diversity in the 1980ā€™s. She feels divided because she spends weekends at her Indian temple and socializing with found family, since her parents left everyone back in India. During the week though she is American, spending time with her American friends. Life is confusing when you feel split between two cultures, but Reha has a loving and supportive family. This is a beautiful story, written so beautifully.

This was so good. I love novels in verse, because with fewer words, each word makes more of an impact, and that was definitely the case with this book. It was so well-written and beautiful.

I especially loved Reha. I think the author captured the voice of a young teen so well and it was so moving to read about her struggles with being stuck between two worlds. I loved all of the aspects of music and 80s pop culture and how Reha related music to her own life.

I also loved the friend group, especially Pete. I wish we would have got more of his story. This was just incredible and Iā€™d definitely recommend it!

I cried for the last 50 pages.

This book should be in every middle school library! I adored how this book is written in verse and the Indian American representation is beautiful. I read this in one sitting.
