This book did such a good job of showing the immigrant's pull between two worlds, and if showing grief. But it also manages to make both those relatable to readers who haven't experienced them. I love novels in verse; this isn't the best example, but a few of the poems are beautiful.

Probably would give this a 5 star when I reread it, but life is way to overwhelming right that I didn’t give the book as much of attention as it deserves. Beautiful message and made me cry

One of my teens said this was a current favorite book and I should read it too. Beautiful, lyrical story that I couldn’t put down. Highly recommend for middle school readers.

Lovely book about an 8th grade girl who doesn’t feel whole and feels split between cultures. But her mom’s illness helps her discover her strength and whole community. Very sweet and sad.
