I don’t know how to feel about this book because I was bored at times, but I also really enjoyed it. The ending was very satisfying

This book was a touching meditation on the beauty of nature and the often ugly way that people treat each other. Kya’s loneliness is a very tangible thing, her forays into the marshes to bond with the animals and draw what she sees in detail an all-too-relatable coping mechanism and distraction from her abandonment. I’ve heard some readers had trouble staying interested into the last act of the book, but I honestly can’t understand why, because I was riveted.

I was on page 100 when I felt the story was beginning to draw me in, which is why I’m only giving it 4 stars. That said, I’m so glad I stuck with it. The prose is beautifully done, and Kya is a fascinating and insightful character. A great book club read.

A great tale of a young girl’s challenges of living alone in a bayou.

I read this for my book club after having kept it on my TBR for too long. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

I almost stopped reading when the title ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ was spoken by characters 3 times in as many sentences

Where I did stop reading was the weird first sex scene. I do enjoy romance (and read plenty) but it felt more like a random insert to target a group and an organic romance scene.

A beautiful story reminiscent of another that I can't quite put my finger on. I want to rescue Kya and show her love. My heart ached for her to find happiness. An easy read and a satisfactory ending.

Desalniettemin mooi.
