The story was fine, and the descriptions of nature were quiet good. I found it could be verbose at times, and, as others have pointed out, the dialogue was wasn't the strongest. While I liked the characters like Jumpin and such, the author builds tension only to accidentally deflate it too quickly and too soon. I have mixed feelings about this book. I got emotional at times, but it was lacking something that made the transition between the two (eventually coinciding) timelines choppy. The time jump in the last few chapters felt especially abrupt.

Fantastic book, the only issue is how the black characters have been portrayed as stereotypical archetypes. This added with the controversy surrounding the author makes it lose some score for me. Ultimately though, the book is good.

In the beginning I found it hard to get back to, but as soon as the
the guy was found dead
and the past and the nearer past started to intertwine it was very capturing. Normally I don't like it when story lines jump, but in this case it was very well done, even the beginning part that I found less capturing was well set up to then be able to fully invested for the rest of the book, making you think "ooh maybe he done it!". I was afraid that we whold get a unsatisfying ending, and i some ways a maybenwas ,but it was perfectly in line with how She was!

This book was very well written and easy to read.
For me, it did not live up to the hype because I was able to guess the ending quite early on.
The lack of her memories about that night was very suspicious. It was also suspicious that no one else was accused. The only time I thought that maybe it wasn’t her was when the sheriff took tate away. but that was just because his father had died
. There were some very interesting facts in here, the ‘sneaky fuckers’ theory and general animal behaviour is what i am currently studying in zoology and evolution. so that was really interesting. Having been written by a zoologist was very interesting!! I also really liked the line ‘giving away another piece of herself just to have someone else’ when she laughed for chase. really hit deep.
