4.5 stars rounded down for the sake of preserving 5 star ratings — This one took me a minute to get in to. But towards the middle things started ramping up! I loved falling in love with Kya’s character and story. The imagery was so vivid and beautiful. I found myself rooting for her until the end. The ending was peaceful and complete with just the right amount of a surprise.

So, I read the first chapter of this and then didn't pick it up for about 2 weeks. Don't know why but it just didn't hook me. After I forced myself to pick it back up, though, I mostly enjoyed it.

I liked the plot twist at the end that wasn't really a plot twist. I couldn't tell if I was being juked or not lol.

Not sure how I felt about the chapter layout of this book. I often read historical fiction that switches between the past and present, but this one got a little confusing near the end when the two met (putting the exact date rather than just the year would have remedied this).
