A classic summer staple of mine!

The imagery Owens uses is so vivid and truly paints a picture of the marsh in your mind, you can feel the warm summer breeze and hear the buzz of insects as you're pulled deeper into the story. I adored the style of writing, though it lost me a few times, I was generally entranced by this book. I kept picking it back up throughout the day just to see how each chapter would finish, and to become enthralled yet again in the intricate environment painted out.
As for general content of the book, I'm not personally a huge romance fan, and couldn't really get into the romantic parts of the book. I much rather enjoyed Kya learning to survive and reading each segment with the trial.

Kya is a STRONG human being with and incredible talent and accompanying intelligence. This is a beautiful love letter to nature (both wild and human).

Destroy the evidence.

This starts veeeeeerrryyyy slowly and really doesn’t get going until the last third. I enjoyed the ecological details and character development to a point - it was overly detailed. I felt the stereotypes were lazy: prejudice against Kya, Jumpin’ and his wife, the sheriff, the jock, the white villagers, etc. I also found it predictable. I’m surprised it was so popular.

Absolutely gorgeous storytelling and scenery. The reader would most definitely be able to distinguish the authors' love/knowledge of nature and animal behavior. I was so excited to pick up this book every time I would leave for my work commute. Highly recommend this novel to those seeking inner reflection about society, abandonment, wilderness and isolation, or anyone who loves swampy-marshy-salt-crust themes.
