I received a recommendation to approach this books and did so without fear.
The book lacks nothing I can think of.
The characters are entertaining. The story is well worked out. The world feels solid. So all in all the book is definitely something you might want to read if you are looking for an interesting story that will keep you hooked and won't cause you a heart attack with its subjects.

This was a fun young-adult fantasy read. It's narrated largely by Bartimaeus, a djinni who has been summoned by and is bound to serve a 12 year old magician. Bartimaeus is funny and arrogant and completely irritated by his young "master," but he's stuck with him. the young magiican is ambitious and feels overlooked and unappreciated. This motivates him to get into some trouble which ends up being connected to a national conflict. The setting is intriguing: London is ruled by magicians and the commoners exist just to serve. There is a rebellion afoot, and I imagine the next volumes will show continued unrest in the city.

the magical system was interesting with the demon/djinn summoning. not normally what you expect and I liked it.
I loved Bartimaeus, but I found the book a bit difficult since none of the characters, particularly Nathaniel, were very likable.
I just couldn't finish it. Maybe if I didn't have so many other great books to read I could of.
One of the most enjoyable parts of this book was that as much attention was given to the djinni Bartimaeus, as the main human boy character, Nathaniel. Bartimaeus being much funner to listen to, but Nathaniel wasn't bad either. He was a nice mix of anger and innocence, and of an interesting time in the life of a young boy (or girl); that being, he's good and innocent and wants to do the right thing, but still young and selfish enough to want revenge, be angry and inconsiderate, and a nice example of a person who could actually develop to be a villain or a good guy, depending on which parts of his personality develop most.
This book reminded me of the style of Artemis Fowl and Jonathan and Mr. Strange mixed together, and all that's a good thing in my eyes. I would happily read (or listen) to more.

This is tremendous YA. Prose is simple, but refined. Characters are interesting. Premise is excellent. The use of footnotes is a huge plus due to its unique application. This book is also responsible for one of my oldest friendships, as we noticed we were both reading it in 6th grade, so it’ll always occupy a special place in my heart.
This was definitely the best one of the trilogy, but they're all worth a read.
