4.5/5 stars! Another Kara Thomas book I loved! I absolutely eat up her stories and this one was no different. The plot was so engaging and I didn't see the twist coming at all!! Can't wait to read more from her.

I am Kara Thomas STAN. This book, as well as her Little Monsters book, are in my top ten recommended books. It is a very easy read with a great plot twist. It is a great read for anyone, can't recommend it enough. 3.9/5 overall rating.

This wasn't a bad book. I just felt like nothing really happened for the first 2/3 of the book. Then when AWESOME stuff started happening, it was super rushed and the last few chapters just felt like a summary.

This book was so creepy!!! Definitely a dark read, as all her books are, but this is by far the darkest. The ending was phenomenal, a few loose ends but I guess that makes it more realistic.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. This book was next level from start to finish. I could never imagine and ending as crazy as this one. My head is still spinning from that plot twist!!

i needed some time to process it, im still not sure how to feel about it.
for the most part it was an interesting book, interesting plot, OK characters, kind of a small world. not the best thriller, and no jaw-dropping moments, however, it can keep you guessing (but i would say it is mostly for the lack of sufficient information in the first place).
there was some serious repetition, specially about one concern/idea, it wasn't so bad though, there were parts/plots where it could have been a bit more detailed, could have taken some more paragraphs!
it wasn't necessarily a big book, or a long plot, on the contrary it was close to being a fast paced book. i liked the idea however, im a sucker for thrillers, i just love it when there are killings and investigations going on, so yes, i did enjoy that aspect. also, in this genre it's so easy to make or it break it, and big props for the book for making it, because while reading, i did NOT cringe, or get annoyed, or decide to give up on the book, because some books tend to induce that.
so yes, it was a ride, an enjoyable one, but not inherently the best!

The most amazing thing about The Darkest Corners is just how convoluted it is. After finishing the book at a fast pace for me, I tried to figure out just how author Thomas came up with the idea. You will see – the book starts off as a murder mystery. It ends up as so much more.
My favourite part of the book is the atmosphere. It’s not written as “it was a dark and stormy night”, but it has this downright creepy atmosphere that had me nervous about switching off the nightlight (I am a scaredy-cat, but then again books like [b:The Three|18453110|The Three|Sarah Lotz|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1379897631s/18453110.jpg|26098356] didn’t scare me at all).
The plot is twisty, but all the same I could predict all the twists well before they happened. I know that some people hate being able to predict the twists, but it does not bother me too much. Sometimes a predictable twist is more believable than one that falls from the sky and demolishes everything in its path.
Even though I would mostly classify this as a character-driven book, I felt the characters could have done with more development. There was an awful lot of “telling” when it came to character traits. It also seemed a bit off how quickly Callie changed her tune about Tessa.
Plotting-wise, I notice that many reviewers felt the beginning dragged too much. I hardly found this to be a problem, but the ending could have been a bit longer – it felt somewhat rushed. (And what’s with that epilogue?! I would have liked to hear more about that shocker.)
The Darkest Corners was a thrilling book to read, although not life-changing. However, these three things (some bigger than others) were real gems to appear in a YA book:
1. A character with real anxiety, where the book is not ABOUT the mental illness. It simply forms part of the character.
2. A male nurse. He is only mentioned in a short cameo but all the same. I don’t like the stereotype that insists that nurses are female and doctors are male.
3. The working-class protagonists. I liked that this wasn’t another “look how twisted us rich folk can be” kind of story. This was a story about Average Joe’s, and the small town’s struggle during stormy economies. Kind of like [b:My Best Everything|20783745|My Best Everything|Sarah Tomp|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1423872741s/20783745.jpg|25326028].

Just when you think you’ve got it figured out here comes another twist, another suspect! Completely unexpected and kept me on my toes from start to finish! For a book I bought at the thrift store I was not prepared for how good it would be! A great read with a good storyline!
