Holy shitttt, I fucking love this book. I found this book so fucking interesting and I could barely put it down. I highly recommend this but I would look up the content warning first.

Ok, it has been a few days since I read it. It is maybe not as good as I originally thought. I still liked it but there are a lot of weird things in this book.

extremely unsettling and uncomfortable to read, which is maybe why i liked it? reminded me of Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder but without any fantasy elements.

loved loved loved. i get that this is a Shocking Statement for the girlies who have no idea how to describe this beyond 'um... female american psycho?' but i loved the main character and identified with her in a lot of ways - we share a very similar background (live in the same place in the UK, even!) and it was almost like looking into a very fucked up alternate dimension in a way. i felt sorry for her and i wanted to succeed and i know that realistically, she can't, and she's doomed to be her mother and to get worse and to rot, but that urge to be SEEN and KNOWN spoke to me so distinctly there was no way i just couldn't love her even despite her terrible cruelty and the things she'd done.

the book WAS wobbly at parts, will probably age poorly for things that are admittedly funny now but will be nigh incoherent to anyone reading this in 20 years time, and the ending is a bit of a dealbreaker for some (not me, and not after the disappointment of our wives under the sea - that WAS a stinker) but ultimately, it crafted a world that i could understand and relate to in so many ways. really special book for me.

This is, and I do not say this lightly, the single most terrifying book I've ever read — if only because I caught myself mid-laugh gasping in horror.

I really dont know how to feel the only bit i think i liked of this was the very end

‘My mam always used to tell me that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. And Eddie from Tesco is a fly, but he's got a taste for vinegar. It's like vinegar is all he's ever had from people, and now he doesn't even know what honey tastes like.’

‘I wonder what the fuck I have to do for people to recognise me as a threat… Do I have to smash a glass over the head of every single man I come into contact with, just so I leave a fucking mark?’
