Peter Swanson decided to write a sequel to "The Kind Worth Killing" many years after its release and named the series "Henry Kimball / Lily Kintner", but I just don't get why he had to use these characters again. Lily (whom I like) doesn't even show up on page until the halfway mark and Henry is just insufferable and apparently incompetent at every job he's doing. Also: this was the most boring kind of thrillers, because the reader already knows what has happened while the main characters are still trying to figure it out. Sigh ....

Ok maybe I need to chill with the murder mysteries because I didn’t even put together that it was the same Henry and Lily in The Kind Worth Killing… had I known that a week ago my rating might be higher.

Just couldn’t get into it — it was a fight to get through the beginning chapters I can’t imagine finishing it

This is such a great follow up novel to The Kind Worth Killing. I might have even liked this one slightly more, but it’s too close to call. I didn’t want to put this book down, I needed to know what was next for Joan, Richard, Lily, and Henry. I was hoping for another extra twist at the very end to lead to the third book, but I’m still really looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Summary:

Joan, a former student of Henry, comes to his new PI company to look into her husband, Richard, because she thinks he is having an affair.

Joan actually went to school with Richard and they convinced a boy to commit a school shooting/suicide. The first twist: there are actually two Richards…how convenient. The one from school and the one she married are different.

Joan actually set up Henry but he gets suspicious of her so he calls Lily, they’re apparently friends now!

Lily befriends Joan, gets her to confess, and kills her.

In the end, Lily confesses to Henry who is in the well.
