What a sequel! I loved the way the first book was so neatly wrapped up in the second. I didn’t think Lily + Henry would develop such an intimate bond but I loved that aspect of the story and thought it was fitting for both characters. I wish it had revealed explicitly that Lizzie was listening in on the conversation in the book book after Duanes death but I guess it’s implied and that’s enough for me!

Looooooved this and The Kind Worth Killing. This pair has definitely encouraged me to read more work by Swanson.

Very disappointing from one of my favorite mystery writers.

Not as good as The Kind Worth Killing, but I loved getting to know what happened to Kimball and Kintner

I did not know this was a sequel. I suspect this book would have been better having read “The Kind Worth Killing”.

Joan knows her husband is cheating on her, so when she walks into Henry Kimball’s office she is simply seeking proof. But Henry Kimball’s radar is piqued the second Joan walks in. She looks eerily familiar. A face from a life he has tried to escape. And forget.

As Henry searches for evidence of the affair, he stumbles across two dead bodies in a vacant house for sale. He begins to connect the dots and uncovers a story far more sinister than even he could imagine.

May go back and read book one and then give this one another go…

3.5 rounded down for -
Lily: “my killing is worthy, as opposed to the other person’s”
Other than that- Richard was the school shooter’s best friend, but was not a target of investigation?
And some other massive holes, but the overall story was ok.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series but couldn't really get into this one as much. It's not a bad story, and it reads fairly quickly, but The Kind Worth Killing would have been just fine as a standalone. This one just didn't have the same energy and engagement. After reading three books from this author, I've realized that he's a hit or miss with me. I'll read another books of his only if I run across it at a thrift shop.
