I love Peter Swanson’s writing and in terms of writing this was just as good as the rest. However the plot felt a little slow and repetitive this time and felt like it was missing an extra twist. That said it could’ve been because it took me longer to read that I wasn’t as gripped!
Let's face it, it is really hard to live up to book one in this series ["The Kind Worth Killing"], so I didn't have the highest expectations. Overall, it's a good, interesting story.
In book #2, we follow former detective Kimball as he navigates his new life as a private detective. When an old student of his comes in with a case about a cheating husband, he accepts the job. He doesn't have much going on with his business yet. We get the wife's perspective along the way, too. Joan's story is a parallel in many ways to Lily. It had me thinking I think I've read this book before....
It was a close copy of book one tbh. It didn't bother me too much, but I missed Lily. [She does come in later in the book]. Where book #1 was fresh, exciting, and surprisingly plausible, this second offering felt contrived. It definitely had some great twists and was fun to read. I would recommend it to fans of book one. Just don't get your hopes up that it will have the same magic as The Kind Worth Killing.🤷♀️

Interesting characters, but the plot was a bit predictable.
