its a real hit or miss with this book. you either like it or hate it. its truly disgusting, very odd, incredibly bizarre and leaves you asking what the fuck you just read...Yeah. I looooved the characters, but a lot of the gore was so ridiculous its hard to take seriously... i loved the book regardless, though!

What a marvelously messed up adventure. I think possibly every character has an irregular kink/body uniqueness and that just adds to the eerie element already taking place. I throughly enjoyed this novel one of the best splatter punks I have read in a while.

You will either like this book or dislike it. I don't think there is really a middle ground. Take six teenagers and strand them in a spooky cabin in the woods with indestructible mutants. But it's not just a fight for your life story. Imagine the most twisted, messed up kids ever and then take it to 11. Don't read if you don't have an open mind about sex and violence because you will just be sick to your stomach.

This is not going to be a book for everyone... but I enjoyed it.

I loved how ridiculous this was! It was gross, wrong in a lot of ways, absurd, and yet really funny in some aspects... what more can you ask for of bizarro horror?!

I don't know how to rate this so I won't. As you are reading it you think it can't get any more weird but then it does and then the cycle repeats. In conclusion: what the hell did I just read? I need to watch cute cat videos after this to cleanse away this book

After reading HELP! A Bear is Eating Me! by Mykle Hansen (my first bizarro book) I was still quite eager to sample what else this movement had to offer, despite my lukewarm feelings towards that book. I'd read that Carlton Mellick III was one of the most prolific authors in this movement, and the description of Apeshit - Friday the 13th (Cunningham, 1980) meets Visitor Q (Miike, 2001) - certainly piqued my interest. Those are two films I somewhat like and it's rare to see Visitor Q referenced. Reading Apeshit was a whole lot of fun and i devoured the book in a single day. At times certain things are pushed a little too far unnecessarily - and whilst Carlton Mellick III does attempt to sidestep any criticism of this with his foreword where he namedrops Chuck Palahniuk, I don't quite buy that instead of being shocking for the sake of shocking he's trying to be "interesting for the sake of interesting". However, I should point out that for me these moments of unnecessary extremities were pretty minor distractions from an otherwise solidly entertaining read.
