That’s how this book ends?!!
What!

What started out as a cute, fun, feel good smily read, turned into me not being able to read it fast enough. I did get a tad confused and lost in some of the middle but it didn’t feel significant enough to miss so I kept going.  By the end, I was fully invested. And the cliffhanger?! Ma’am. Rude.

Twists I did NOT see coming.  Bachelor style dating using cruel games and deadly trials, sprinkle in magic, deceit, love triangles, betrayals, some mystery, and a huge plot twist at the end?!
Very well done.

This is 4.25 stars for me.

I am so shook lol

I had a tough time with the romance (it just fell flat for me and was cringey at times, if not super cliche). I was able to get past that though because of what was going on with the plot.

I also feel that the writing overall was subpar / amateurish, but again, I got past that after a handful of chapters. I personally don't think it was so bad to make this difficult to read. Similarly, I felt like most of the characters felt flat, but I think that has to do with the way they were written / the sentence structures that the author kept using.

the plot, though, held me and my jaw dropped when things started getting revealed at the end - just AHHHH (lmao). I couldn't find any glaring plot holes or inconsistences (which is sad that I even have to say this with the state of publishing recently, but I digress). I also thought that pacing overall was fine, and definitely not as bad as some other books I have read recently.

OH also there is one FULL sex scene, even though this is marketed as YA (and for the most part feels that way as well), so keep that in mind.

Very much would recommend. I have been in a little bit of a slump recently and I hope this has gotten me out of it - I am excited to read again <3.

Maybe I am into regency reads?

Ivy is due to join society, but things change drastically when the Fae Queen announces a competition to decide will marry Prince Bram.  Ivy isn’t sure what bargain to make with the Queen, what has happened  to her sister or if she can do anything about it all. All she knows is she needs to try and become the princess if she wants answers.

I loved that this gives us interspersed chapters from other POVs to give us a bigger picture. Emmett is real the star of the story though.  The ending had all sorts of surprises and left me shocked.

I am very curious what role the fae world will play in the next book . I think there’s a lot of potential for the ending of the duology depending the direction it takes.

This book did some things that I genuinely enjoy, like the friendship between the contestants and the fact that we got a pov chapter from each of the girlies. However, it also did one of my most hated cliches, and for that, I cannot give me more than a 3.5.

I despise when in fantasy there’s a love triangle between two brothers, where one is broody and the other sunshiny, and then by the end the sunshiny one turns out to be evil/turns evil.
This shit has happened with so many of the books I’ve read, and it’s becoming both exhausting and a really poorly executed twist.

Also the book had weird pacing, we were flying through some of the scenes, just for them to get slow next second. I will still read the second book because I want to know how the story ends, and I do like the premise.

I was just hoping for something different.

This could've been way less irritating if it wasn't a first-person perspective from the least interesting girl in the cast of characters.

Interesting concept and simply written, kept me guessing and I enjoyed the twist! I didn’t know it was a series, so I’m wondering where this goes… feels like a cruel prince/bridgerton mash up and I’m not sad about it! Love the rivals to besties girl gang :)
