This was fine but the competition to be princess has been done better by others and the twist was, to me, quite obvious. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t read it again and am 50/50 on picking up the sequel.

Victorian England period drama meets Fae? I’m in! I enjoyed this book so much. Was it perfect? No. But it was certainly enjoyable and entertaining. The “trials” were a bit drab in my opinion, though I think that’s mostly because the trials trope is a little over done. However, I loved the twists and turns the story took and that made up for the lackluster marriage competition. The female relationships were fascinating and I liked that we got to hear from “the six.” I would definitely recommend this and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is certainly not a bad read but it felt a bit predictable to me. Not a bad thing if you enjoy this type of story and you’re into the

forbidden elements of the romance / love triangle / politics above love of it all

but I tend to prefer it when the romance is a bit more secondary rather than centre stage, and given a bit more time to develop.

Not a bad read for fans of the genre though and if anyone was tempted I’d tell em go for it but I dont think I’ll continue the series since it’s not quite for me.

Enjoyed the female characters though! Seeing the other girls POVs was a really nice touch that I felt made them all feel more human and relatable.

The magic and altered history was certainly interesting. I understand the author couldnt go too deep into the particulars of it all given the whole banning of anything mentioning Fae, their world, histories etc but I would’ve definitely been interested to know more about that aspect of the story.
