This was such a fun read. It was giving Bridgeton with faerie games and trials. So soo good! Can't wait for book 2!!

Damn what a cliffhanger! You open up this tale with a fantasy Bridgerton on steroids- Fae are ruling England and everyone bargains for their deepest desires with hefty costs. The evil queen who’s ruled for 400 years has a son- and he’s ready to marry. In steps Ivy- and five other girls- ready to debutante it out for his hand, power, and the betterment of their families. I love that throughout the story we get insight into everyone’s reasoning for being there and their perspective- and their bargains. What starts off a little benign and more fluffy quickly turns dark and torturous- between the Queen and her games, the brewing love triangle involving the brothers, and the very scary nature of the Fae. I appreciate that she really didn’t downplay the folklore of Fae being devious and bloody- they’re charismatic and beautiful and also deadly. By the second half of the book I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I was glad to see the love triangle resolved and plot questions answered… though now we are left with even deeper questions on where we go from here. I cannot wait for the next book. I also loved that the author took the genre of fantasy and brought such diversity to her characters in essentially what’s Edwardian England and a notably undiverse setting- and without it also causing major plot holes. She answers a lot of questions on other nations reactions, how and why people leave and come to England, and how the hierarchy works. (Though I’m intrigued to know if British colonization isn’t happening what does this world look like!) intriguing read and I can’t wait to continue.
