I thought I was really going to enjoy this book because a regency era fantasy book with magic & fae sounds right up my alley. Unfortunately, this story felt very uninspired, tired & dull.

This is the same exact plot (and twists) as at least two popular books. I get it. Sometimes you read something & you think “I want this same exact thing but slightly different”. If that’s you, you’ll probably love this book. I am just so sick of reading the same thing over & over again and there is no improvements on the story at all.

Even if I did want to read the same thing, this book has several issues. 1) the pacing of the book. the trials seemed to rush by & everything else DRAGGED. 2)all the characters felt flat to me. I did like the individual chapters but did not actually care what happened to any of them. 3) Ivy was so passive as an FMC & I didn’t enjoy her for one second.  4)The romance (or lack thereof). It was so forced & didn’t feel genuine at all.
I could recite every single thing I didn’t like about this book but it would take too long.

I did like the setting & the premise of bargaining with the Queen. I think this book had potential but was not executed well & pulled too many ideas from different books instead of allowing its own story to take hold.

I did not expect that ending at all. I thought this was a stand-alone, but I am excited to read the next book in the series when it comes out.

This story combines stories like the Cruel Prince with its political intrigue, Bridgerton for the time period, and The Selection as it’s a competition.

This book follows Ivy and 5 other girls as they compete to marry Prince Bram. The only catch is, if they fail to win they will not be allowed to marry at all.

This story explores the friendship between two sisters as Ivy tries to find out what happened with her sister Lydia’s bargain as she is unable to remember. It also has a chapter from the point of view of each girl in the competition which I enjoyed as you get to know those characters a little better.

There’s also tension and forbidden love with the prince’s brother Emmett. *SWOON*

Will Ivy risk everything to be with Emmett or will she do what’s best for her family and sister and try to marry Prince Bram who is known for being good and kind?

It all turns to chaos in the end with many unexpected twists and turns and now it has me hoping book 2 comes out soon!

I loved the characters, the setting, and the plot twists. I enjoyed the political intrigue and the tension between the love interests. I’m so excited for book 2, and I highly recommend this series!
