A choppy adaptation, but interesting art style, and a good way to reprocess such timely material.

Great story, adapted well I think. I didn’t love the art, but it read very well.

I have been hearing about this novel for a little while now and when I saw it in graphic novel form, I snatched it up. This one is very traumatic but also very worthwhile. The art is pretty visceral at times so keep that in mind.

Read this title if you are entertained by our dystopian possible future.

♡ THIS BOOK WAS ACTION-PACKED ♡

✩°。⋆ 14th Review of 2024 ⋆。°✩

♡ MY REVIEW:
The positives: Lauren was a really strong female character, which I can always appreciate in a book. She went through so much, yet persevered! I hate how many times people have to endure things that happen to them and are often called "strong" when they "had" to be strong but never "wanted" to be. So for this reason, she's not strong, but she has perseverance due to her hardships. Also, I love the art style!

The negatives:
I had to push myself to finish this book because it felt action-packed yet slow-paced. There were a lot of characters to remember and a lot of different things happening all at once. Personally, it was a handful to keep up with and track of.

♡ MY FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Embrace diversity,
Unite—
Or be divided,
robbed,
ruled,
killed
By those who see you as prey.
Embrace diversity
Or be destroyed" (160).

An impressive adaptation that's more accessible than Butler's novel in all the right ways, as Duffy takes full advantage of Jennings' ability to add nuance to every panel. It might be blasphemy, but I loved this more than the original novel.
