I was instantly hooked. Read the entire book in 2 days. But the ending disappointment me! I have too many unanswered questions.
It was slow-paced and highly descriptive. It worked, though. You felt the love of the mother and her fear for her child. It was beautiful.

The entire book spans just a few hours during a mass shooting event at a zoo. Multiple point of view tale, which keeps the pages turning.
This was touted as un-put-down-able and thrilling but it was neither.
The novel started achingly slow and remained that way until the end, despite the fear of imminent death and the apparent drama & thrill.
The characters were bone dry and uninteresting.
There was no tension in the execution of this story.
Very disappointing.

disappointing ending :(
writing was nice and was intrigued enough to finish the book. kept hoping it would pick up at some point but i went in thinking it was a thriller and it is definitely not. the ending could have built up into something but just fell flat for me. finished the last page and was surprised there wasn’t more lol

I'm not a parent so 80% of the book didn't resonate with me but it was an incredibly challenging thriller nonetheless.
Finally got around to it...
I have been wanting to read this book since it was first published, and even though I am in the middle of so many others, something made me pause and inhale this story over the course of mere hours. If there were active shooters at the zoo, where would you hide? How far would they go to take every single visitor down? What would be their motivation? Who could you trust? How would you protect your child? Scary in a good kind of way, I found myself a little jealous that some of the zoo guests found each other and a place to hide, together, without masks, for a little while. For the rest of the story, I held my breath — and you might, too.
