I found the first chunk of the book irritatingly slow and the characters annoying to the point that I almost DNFed several times. But I'm a bit of a completionist and there was enough something in it for me to hang in. I ultimately enjoyed the second half more, though it still left me feeling just meh. I've enjoyed plenty of silliness and satire in other books, but this brand of it just didn't really work for me. I found the three main characters too unlikable and one-dimensional for way too much of the book (which I believe was intentional, to be fair to the authors). It just didn't pay off sufficiently in the end for me. Oddly, I can't recall how I ended up adding it to my library holds list, so I don't remember how it was recommended to me. Anyway, just not my cup of tea in the end.

An amusing jaunt through a lovely Scottish wintry setting. The characters were unfortunately all tropes, and pretty annoying ones at that. The middle showed some promise of each character getting a little deeper as they revealed more backstory, but in the end they all kind of settled back into their original stereotypes. That’s a cozy mystery, I guess.
I’m also not a fan of how the three different POVs led to each reveal being rehashed two more times. And I hope to never hear the word “pantaboots “ again.

I’m surprised with how much I loved this book! I wasn’t expecting much, but this read has gotten me out of a bit of a reading slump. I really enjoyed this one!
