My interest in the book continued to drop the more I read it. When I realized I was dragging my feet with it I accepted it was time to DNF it.

Meh. It was fine. I think if I had been physically reading this it would have been a DNF but it’s easier for me to power through books when they are in audiobook format. I think the narrators did a fantastic job, they kept the characters from feeling totally flat to me. The initial motivation of the main characters didn’t ring true for me, so it threw the entire book off. The final unmasking of the murderer and the climax also left a lot to be desired, it felt like the authors were rushing to give everyone a happy ending. As I’m writing this review I’m realizing I maybe didn’t like this book very much at all. Whoops.
I wanted to like this so badly. I’ve enjoyed the other collaborations and separately enjoy a few of these authors solo adventures. But this book was… schizophrenic.
There is beautiful, descriptive writing I’m used to from other works by these authors but the characters were stuck between being caricatures, tongue in cheek roasts of the genre and trying to be serious characters I could care about. So they’re not quite funny and I don’t quite care. The first 52% started slow for me. There was some mystery but we were stuck with these strange characters to progress forward and I just couldn’t care. Then it picked up but the reveals were fucked up to the point where they felt like a joke.Like how depraved BSP is. He had zero redeeming anything and also because he was dead the stakes felt low.
