Is it too meta for a trio of authors to write a book about a trio of authors forced together to write a book? Probably but it's a fun premise. Cassie writes cozy mysteries, Emma pens very thoroughly researched historical fiction, and Kat authors dark and steamy romantsies. They meet at a conference and decide to collaborate.

Introducing the characters through their police interviews was a clever way to show the different points of view as well as some of the backstory. But for me, it went on for too long and dragged things out too much. I figured out the hook and the twist and the motivations so I just wanted to get on with solving the mystery. The pacing in the second half was better. I liked the Scottish castle and the Kincloch village. The sheep jokes were perfectly dad-like. The ending was over-the-top in a 90s movie kind of way and the epilogue was a bit goofy but this book was lots of fun. Although this book takes place in the third week of December, there isn't any Christmas in this book.

A fun homage to many genres, although it also was definitely a bit ridiculous at times.

Three authors pretend to be friends. They attend a writer's conference in Scotland with one goal - to hurt the reputation of  Brett Saffron Presley. When he is found dead, Chief Inspector Euan McIntosh has to interview the 3 writers, believing they all have a motive for wanting Presley dead - and they did!
A cute but predictable novel about authors collaborating to bring down a wretched man. Along the way, love blooms and is reclaimed. A nod to authors and satire.

Set in a castle in Scotland, three authors, supposedly best friends, meet to attend a writing clinic. Kat writes erotic fantasies, Cassie writes cozy mysteries and Emma writes historical fiction. The three have a secret which will be unveiled later in the book. When a dead body is found in the castle, the three writers, first suspects, then budding detectives, try to solve, the murder. There are some very humorous moments. I enjoyed this one, and recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

It started out really slow for me and I almost put it down on my DNF shelf. Once part two hit and more secrets were revealed it got much better. The ending seemed a bit farfetched to me as s*** was hitting the fan but overall still had fun reading this.
