I went back and forth between 4 and 5 stars on this one-- it dragged a bit in the middle, but ended strong so I went with 5.

Two things about this book: firstly, no sexual violence and a surprising amount of humor. Thank you, Karen Chance. Secondly, I have been binging urban fantasy and much as I hate to say it, this book shows the difference between self-published and carefully-edited, expertly-written traditionally-published. The dialogue is snappy - you find that in both - but the pacing is also good, balancing action scenes and exposition while keeping the book moving smoothly; there’s a lot of violence but its aftereffects feel realistic and are explained (people get tired, wounded, need healing, etc.) and it doesn’t happen so frequently that it starts to feel cartoonish. A lot of the book is taken up with smaller side quests but we also believe that larger plot arcs continue to move behind the scenes; we’re shown what we need for this book but there is a whole world out there in which things continue to happen and may eventually become relevant to Dorina over the course of the series. Exposition is minimal and given only when needed. As a reader you feel fully immersed in the world and the storyline.

I'm pretty sure it's my favorite book in this series <3 (although it's hard to choose because I loved books 1 and 2 too)

What I particularly loved :
- very intriguing plot with slaves fey (OMG this story with the bones !!!) and very twisted (I didn't expect at all the identity of the culprits and the end !!)
- the scene under the tent between Caedmon and Dory <3
- seeing the Order from a different point of view (I loved seeing them in a different context than in the Cassandra Palmer series !! And I loved James =D)
- the story of Louis-Césare and Dory <3 (even if it was ridiculous with Marlowe ><)
- the alternation between the past (I love to see Mircea at his beginnings !!), the present and Dorina (we really discover her in this book and her new balance with Dory is perfect !!)
- this end PFIOULALALALA with Louis-Césare but also the ceremony !!!

In short, fan of vampires, Cassandra Palmer, urban fantasy or just wanting a good book or a good series ? You know what to read =D

Dory is back and life is one big rollercoaster ride. Dory and Louis-Cesare jump from one fire to another with hardly a break between. After waiting what seemed like forever for this book it sped by too fast but it is a heck of a ride.

I loved this entry in the series because of Dorina. It was great to be inside her "head" and understand how she felt about Dory and their father. For as much as everyone feared Dorina, she proved she really is as loyal as her other half...especially to those that she loves. Can't wait for more.

Dorina and Karen keep getting better and better. I love when a writer can make me forget to eat, sleep and be aware of my surroundings until a story is finished. Things are changing and the characters are growing however I find myself still invested in their lives. Go ahead and read you won't regret it.
