I'm really struggling to rate this book. I feel like 2 is too harsh but a 3 is too generous.

I was really excited for this book as it was next generation Potter but i feel the play/script formate really took away from this book.

In places i feel the story was a bit predicable and i did not really like how Harry or Ron were portrayed. I feel Ron was never serious and in the series we seen the funny and serious side of Ron.

I'm upset to say that this book just didn't make me go WOW like the Harry Potter series did. I feel that the Harry Potter series ended in a good place. The first scene was my favourite of the whole book because in that one scene i got what i wanted to see the characters as parents

However in a few months i may reread this and feel differently.

As Jean Bookishthoughts said Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is kind of like a badly written fanfiction.

This is gonna be full of spoilers, so be warned.
I have too many thoughts about this to write a proper review, so I'm gonna work with pros and cons.

CONS:

-The plot is trash. Like, literal trash. Cedric was never an important character, and the fact that he would ever become a Death eater is ridiculous to me. His death hit Harry so much because he felt like he died for him (which he kind of did?), not because they were friends. He was someone you don't care that much about but you'd like him not to get herpes.
-They spent 354 pages builiding a BEAUTIFUL and healthy gay relationship between two 14 year olds that could have shown that gay people do canonically exist in the wizarding world just so they could crush that later. Do not come at me with that bullshit of "just friends". Scorpius was legit JEALOUS of Delphi.
-They ruined Harry's character. I don't even have words. Why?
-Albus. Why is he the main character.
-SNAPE????? JKR loves this abusive piece of shit so much and I'mm never gonna get over it. I'll be 70 and salty about it.
-THE PLOT HOLES. There are so many I stopped counting after page 80. Sure, two 14 year old Hogwarts kids are gonna have two Durmstrang robes just hanging around. (Spoiler: no they don't.)

PROS:

-I MISSED THIS WORLD AND THESE PEOPLE SO MUCH I CRIED EVEYTIME SOMEONE I KNEW APPEARED.
-There were no sideline stories or secondary characters, but it was beautifully carried with only two main characters.
-Hermione, Ginny and Scorpius. They were the best thing in the book.
-It's no Harry Potter and the Half blood prince, but it's a Harry Potter book and I'm harry Potter trash.
-Voldemort having a daughter was unexpected, even if it was horribly carried. A for that.
-A funny, kind, smart and compassionate bisexual Slytherin boy. Yes.

I'm giving this 3 stars because it's Harry Potter and I can't be impartial; but they should have left it how it was. Save us the pain.

The play was really cool and sometimes funny to see with great actors etc. But the story was just straight up a fanfiction that lacked at parts.
