This was really close to a perfect mystery. I feel like it wobbled just a bit at the end, but the beautiful prose and well crafted mystery at the center make it well worth the read.

As descrições dadas do personagem me deixaram desconfortáveis como leitora. Dou 4.75 estrelas.

3.75⭐ rounded up
After reading the blurb, I was hooked. I really love a good mystery.
I enjoyed how this was written, in broken pieces where you try to piece the information together the same time as Aiden. What put me off was the gross fatphobia, I felt it was unnecessary and was there just to make that particular character as gross as possible via fat shaming.

I thought I'd had some sort of grasp of whodunnit but the end twists were a surprise, not all in a bad way :D But also the way the book ended left me with a lot more questions than I had before the revelation, more in the spoilers.

Ok so, if those "murder mystery settings" are the sort of "rehabilitation for prisoners, why it was obvious that even if they would have changed and atoned and all, they still would be stuck in the loop, why?
Also how they were made. Was it magic? some sort of Matrix setting? Some sort of Minority Report future crime prediction?
Who were the people in the plague doctor outfits?
They also said Aiden volunteered to go in. How? Did he search yellow pages and phoned some dude?
Who were the "supervisors"?
Now that Aiden and Anna are out, will they remember the place, do they get some sort of start money?

This is a unique and engaging whodunit that plays with body-hopping and time travel in an interesting way. I really enjoyed the way twists were revealed, especially when "villains" were revealed to actually be Aiden in a later host. It takes a certain kind of brilliance to keep track of all these narratives and clues. I will say that the ending was quite lackluster and dissatisfying, as I felt it wrapped up rather quickly. I wanted to know more on the rules of the prison/mystery thing and the Plague Doctor. I just felt like the resolution wasn't as cunning or complicated as the rest of the novel. However, I did enjoy it, and the characters were interesting enough (didn't like the rapist or the fatphobic stuff, though). It also felt like some characters didn't get the proper conclusion either, like Cunningham or Felicity. But I did enjoy it overall.
