3.5/5 - Won't be the first to say that the writing in this extraordinary. I enjoyed it enough despite lacking some context to appreciate all of the nuance and detail. Many parts feel distinct in my memory while others I remember as people sitting around talking without much at stake. Beautiful ending nevertheless

Incredible. The audio book was also a complete marvel.

I really enjoyed this book for the story and characters. However the language is so pretentious that it can be a drag to read through.

I struggled with this. Although the writing was lovely and I liked the story, I felt it dragged along somewhat.

I can't believe I wasted 2021 on that. That was fucking awful.
It became almost unbearable listening to the inner thoughts of a character who speaks and speaks and speaks but literally says nothing. The best part of the book were the final bits berating him for his superiority and weird obsessive glomming on to other people.

A novel of such beautiful prose and dazzling keenness of observation as to render irrelevant the languid pacing and seeming plotlessness of this “comedy of manners.” Amazing

Nothing short of a masterpiece.
