Wonderful, simplistic and unique. My favourite quote from the book

I am looking for friends. What does that mean -- tame?"

"It is an act too often neglected," said the fox. "It means to establish ties."

"To establish ties?"

"Just that," said the fox. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.

The Little Prince told the story of a man who was stranded in the desert. One day, he awoke and a little boy was standing nearby. When asked how he arrived, the boy explained he was a prince and he had come from a tiny planet. He was traveling to different places and listening to people’s stories. The prince asked the man to draw some things for him. While the man did, the prince told stories about different people he had met on his travels. In each story, the person placed great value in something. The prince felt they valued things that didn’t matter in the long run and ignored the little things that made life worth living. Those seemingly insignificant or mundane things were what brought the real joy and pleasure in life.

I noticed this book referenced by people who felt deeply touched by it and recommended it to others. I was curious and wanted to see what I had been missing. I think it is the type of book that can touch people in different ways depending on their life experiences. A child reading or listening to the story would interpret the story’s messages differently than an adult would. I found it interesting as there are not many books that touch readers in varied ways. I enjoyed the book and will probably read it again to see if the next time brings a new message to mind.

This was seriously one of the best book ever written. Indeed this was a classic, yet even the modern era can relate. People saw me reading this and asked me if this was a book for children because of its cover. I can't help but smile. If they only knew the story behind its cover. It was wonderfully written. Final review: READ IT.

Wow. I knew this story but reading it in French was so cool. I know it’s a kid’s book but there are so many tidbits of wisdom—some I don’t agree with and some I wholeheartedly do. Its philosophy on love, though imperfect, is really beautiful. I will say I wish the one “woman” character in the book (a rose) wasn’t just an object/symbol and super vain etc. It just felt like a bummer because there’s so much truth to this book but the misogyny of this part takes me out of it. Whatever though—this is a really cool literary object. I recommend looking up Saint-Exupéry’s life. It’s so interesting… he actually crashed a plane in the desert during WWII and hallucinated etc., and a lot of the metaphors in the book could apply to Nazi-occupied France.
