This is a YA on a cheerleader and the new football quarterback- here is the catch the quarterback is a girl.   And she kicks ass on the field but no one cares except Amber, our cheerleader, who can't risk supporting QB cause she wants to be the captain.  Amber is dating Miguel, her gay best friend for cover but as the team of footballers and cheerleaders intense their anger at the new girl, will Amber try to stop it?

This is a heavy book even though at times there is the light-hearted cute aspect of it.  There is homophobia and myology dripped on many pages, not in grand examples but more the microaggression, and yes microaggression also comes through.  The characters are memorable and we can see the connection between our MCs.  And seeing our MCs going about in the homophobic cluster they are in was me rallying for them, sad for them, and angry at the couch who saw all of it and did nothing.

Sport romance between a cheerleader and quarterback and most of all it's SAPPHIC??!! Amber and Jack so sooooooo cute. Overall this was an adorably cheesy little rom-com, and I loved every minute of it.

A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this. Funny, emotional, lighthearted, angsty. It had that perfect mix that I love in YA of comical and sweet, but also serious and real. I loved the characters and the plot was entertaining. It was a very quick read too!

♡ Cute Ending
♡ Queer Sports Romance
♡ Cheerleader x Quarterback (sapphic edition)

I really enjoyed this book.  I mean it’s a gay sports romance, of course I’m going to like it.  The characters were cute and the ending was absolutely adorable.  While yes, the characters decisions at some points get a little bit frustrating, I think it plays well with the YA vibe of the book.

There was a lot of talk about homophobia and dealing with people like that in a small town and not wanting to come out of the closet to the public in fear of losing friendships.  However, both main characters are out at home and one even having a bisexual mom, which was a cool addition.

Overall, it was a  quick read with a sapphic take on the cheerleader x quarterback trope.

"Home Field Advantage" by Dahlia Adler offers a refreshing take on YA LGBTQIA+ sports romance. Set in the midst of Atherton high school, the football team  is mediocre at best. But the novel introduces Jack Walsh, a star quarterback who challenges stereotypes and expectations as a female player. As Jack navigates her way around teammates who resent her, and school mates who are suspicious of her, she begins budding romance with cheerleader Amber McCloud. Author Dahlia Adler deftly explores themes of identity, acceptance, and the complexities of high school relationships. With its engaging plot twists and authentic portrayal of teenage life, "Home Field Advantage" is a must-read for fans of the genre. Adler's compelling storytelling and diverse characters make this novel a standout addition to YA literature.
